Our marbles, from Orosei to Nuxis.
Orosei marble, also known commercially as Breccia Sarda, Biancone, Perlato Olimpo, Tigrato d’Oriente, Daino Reale and Daino Imperiale, derives from a carbonic formation dating from the Jurassic-Cretaceous Period present in Monte Tuttavista in Orosei. Characterized by an alternation of layers of calcareous and dolomitic marbles, its coloring ranges from beige to hazelnut cream and is enriched with darker veins of calcite and laminas of onyx that make it particularly elegant. From the geological standpoint, the stone belongs to the family of sedimentary rocks and is given Folk classification as biopelsparite. Fossils, shells, minerals and algae were crystalized in the stone, creating beautiful and unique Orosei marble, the leading Sardinian marble in terms of amounts extracted and extent of the production basin.
In Nuxis, instead, is the only Sardinian quarry producing black marble, Black Secret, refined and unusual, and gray Silver Moon marble featuring a crystalline structure.

8 good reasons for choosing our Sardinian marbles.
Authentically natural.
Nothing in their geological composition has been altered and no synthetic or natural substance was added in processing. The sole maker of our Sardinian marbles is Mother Nature who, over the course of millions of years, created them and made then unique, thanks to the presence of fossils, onyxes, shells and corals.
Ecological, eco-sustainable and biocompatible.
In fact, like all natural stones, our marbles are non-toxic and non-polluting: they neither accumulate nor release harmful substances or harbor bacteria, funguses molds or germs. Thanks to their very limited impact on humans and the environment they are especially suited for use in green building.
Incredibly durable and extraordinarily practical.
Along with the natural longevity of marble, superior to any other product on the market, our Sardinian marble is also very easy to clean and maintain.
Versatile.
Thanks to their great resistance and easy workability, our marbles lend themselves to a host of utilizations, from the traditional to the most innovative. In addition, a wide range of surface treatments provides extremely high quality responses to the most varied requirements and the most demanding clienteles.
Certified non-radioactive.
Laboratory tests and analyses were conducted by the Cagliari University Physics Department.
Fireproof.
They are in UNI EN 13501 – 1 Class A 1 for building materials, requiring no laboratory testing.
Guaranteed.
They conform to European reference standards. In its turn, Sardegna Marmi has ISO 9001: 2008 certification and works in compliance with all the standards foreseen by its Quality System.
100% Made in Italy.
From extraction to finishing, Sardinian marble comes from and is processed on this Italian island.
Unique in the world. Orosei marble seen through the microscope.
Frequent sequences of Mesozoic beds of calcareous and dolomitic rocks from the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods form the Monte Tuttavista massif (805 meters high, stretching northeast) in Orosei, the world’s only site for Daino Imperiale quarries.
The carbonate succession is composed at its base of brown dolomites and arenaceous (sandy) limestones, followed by stratified paler limestones, sometimes hazelnut in color.
The types of Mesozoic limestones include marbles of different colors and veining, all found in the Orosei area and extracted and processed by Sardegna Marmi.
Under the polarized-light microscope, thin cross-sections of samples are all seen to consist of microcrystalline calcite.
The pale marble (Daino Imperiale in the Fiocco di Neve, Perlato and Nuvolato varieties) consists of micrite (crypto- and microcrystalline calcite) with intraclasts (indigenous fragments deriving from the demolition, by waves, of limestones formed in the same basin) and bioclasts, also of micrite, with veins of microcrystalline calcite that in final cementing sutured ruptures of tectonic origin, improving the material’s mechanical characteristics (figs. A and B).
The medium-veined (Venato Medio) marble consists of bioclastic granules deriving from foraminifera, fragments of fossils and algae and intraclasts of microcrystalline calcite in a partially recrystallized mosaic of micrite (fig. C).
